Manager of
the month for September 2007 was Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger with
Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas named best player.
This is Wenger's ninth manager of the month award.
Spaniard Fabregas, 20, scored three times in that period as
Arsenal beat Portsmouth, Tottenham, Derby and West Ham to go top
of the Premier League.
This is Fabregas's second award after claiming the prize in
January. |

No
more "special one", position vacant, or is it.
| Changing team
names during a campaign should be frowned on in my
opinion and points deducted. Not least it
makes punditry very difficult when your made to
worry whether your audience understand that the team
you are writing about was the one that was called
something completely different last week, but it
shows signs of managerial uncertainty and indecision
- look what happened to Wimbledon when they merged
with something or other to become the Milton Keynes
Dons... need I say more. Although, there can
be only one member of the league who would consider
himself worthy of using "The Special One" as his
team name so perhaps it's not a surprise or a
problem. So it's official Jose Mourinho has
left Chelsea for good and "Walkers Winners" have now
changed their team name to "The Special One".
*cough* |

What a week! Are
Chelsea finished for the league title already this year
after a 2-0 defeat at the hands of a very impressive
Manchester United. What about Adebayor Arsenal's in
form striker - on fire or what - scoring a hat trick and
almost getting a fourth in Arsenal's clinical win over
Derby. Managers with Arsenal players saw their scores
rocket this week with in form Fabregas also scoring highly.
Perhaps I should say some Arsenal players - Van Persie...
"take a walk". The Manchester City vs Fulham match was
a great match but the 3-3 score line upset a few manager's
defensively with usually high scoring Richards, Dunne and
Schmeichel taking a points pounding.
Again no change at the
top with Walker's Winners still holding top spot - there you
go! Sorry, "the Special One" still holding top spot.
Although, George's Giants in second place continue to be a
flea in the ear of August's Manager of the month with just 1
point separating them in the overall September scores.
Highest scorers this
week were: Signing the Blues (how prophetic) (86), Lightning
Strikers (85) and The Special One (76).

Will the
real Manager of the Month please stand up!
Mr Burns (Sven-Goran Eriksson) made it a club double for
Manchester City by winning the Manager of the Month award for
August 2007, the first City boss to do so since Stuart Pearce in
August 2005.
Also
Manchester City defender Micah Richards Barclays player of the
month award. |

2007: Fantasy Football 2007 Game Week 6
Fantasy football is back after a 2 week break.
After a rest from the stress of fantasy league football
management brought about by a week of internationals game week
6 saw the return of Friday night and Saturday morning
tension and the ever present "you done your transfer yet" or
"who's your captain this week". Tactics and signings
are always played close to the chest although I do like
hearing the reasons for certain adjustments and the
"fantasy" predictions we all try to make and justify.
Just as a test I thought I'd refer back to the fantasy
league pundit for Game Week 6 to see whether I should have
taken heed of his advice. Turns out he was advised by
the same idiot as I was!
"Michael Owen has now
scored 5 goals in the last 4 games he has played. He scored
his first goal in 20 months against Barnsley in the Carling
Cup, followed by his first league goal of the season against
Wigan, and he topped off his comeback with 3 goals and an
assist in England's games against Israel and Russia. Owen is
relatively cheap at 9.5, and with an away game against Derby
in Game Week 6, he could be worth a look."
No change at the top
with Walker's Winners holding top spot. Watch out for
George's Giants who are on a roll.

2007: Fantasy Football 2007 Game Week 5
Manager of the month Neil Walker "Walkers Winners"
Game week 5 saw the premier league returning to some
normality (not good for the risk takers like me) until
Chelsea took on Aston Villa at Villa Park. Without
Frank Lampard Chelsea just couldn't break through some
steadfast defending. Showing a real desire to win
Aston Villa sealed a memorable victory winning the match
2-0. And with the first big win of the season going to
Liverpool crushing Derby in a 6-0 goal fest this game week
should offer a few twists and some high scores. Other
high score opportunities include West Ham's goal keeper
Robert Green's penalty save, Matthew Etherington's two goals
for West Ham and the ever reliable Everton defender Lescott
getting a goal from an Everton set piece to seal a 2-1 win
over Bolton.
Some big scores this week for some in form Cranston Park
Managers: Oli's Allstars (65), The Grayster (78) and The
Grinder (73) and a small shake up at the top of the table
with Walkers Winners remaining in first place, The Grayster
climbing to second place and Meldrew Toon slipping back to
third place replacing Tinkerman Trew who slides to fifth
place.
Gib Ends AFC climbs
out of the relegation zone leaving Bilton Mafia rooted at
the foot of the table.

Apparently, and according to the league administrator, a bottle
of champagne will be awarded each month to the "Manager of the
Month". It just so happens that this month it's the league
administrator Neil Walker who receives August's prize... from
himself.
To save
on the expense of buying a bottle of champagne each month I am
reliably informed that Neil will not open the champagne but will
award the same bottle to September's "Manager of the Month".
This way Neil has the added incentive to win each month to make
sure it is the only bottle of champagne he'll have to buy.
Haven't
had the presentation yet so had to go with a picture of Mr
Walker taken earlier in the year, but I think the cheesy grin
will be the same. |

2007: Fantasy Football 2007 Game Week 4
At
last a win for Manchester United!
Game week 4 saw Manchester United remembering how to win a
football match again and Walker's Winners storm to the top
of the table pushing Meldrew Toon into second place and
Tinkerman Trew into third place. Gib Ends AFC sits at
the bottom of the table by 1 point away from Bilton Mafia.
I guess that means Gib Ends AFC is the relegated team for
August - I'm sure he's all talk Dan the League Administrator
wouldn't do it to you.

2007: Fantasy Football 2007 Game Week 3
Still not going according to plan
Who would have thought it, 3 games without a win for
Manchester United - 15 years since a season has started so
badly for them. Glad I haven't got a single Man U
player in my sqaud! Some very predictable results on the
weekend (apart from the Man U result of course), but not a
good weekend if you had all the usual tried and trusted high
scoring players in your team. Time to take some risks
perhaps or stick with the old stalwarts? Some may call
it luck but several managers this week took some calculated
risks and reaped the benefits!
Meldrew Toon took top
spot away from Walkers Winners with this week's highest
score of 65 points seeing 'Winners' drop to 3rd place.
The Grayster continued to score well and remains in 2nd
place. Two new teams join the league for game
week 4, The Grinder and Signing the Blues - The Grinder
immediately taking the 3rd spot away from 'Winners' and
pushing him out of the medals! Rumour has it that
TinkermanTrew will return from the 'sin bin' at the end of
the month. If Tinkerman were to join us now, before
game week 4, he'd nick 2nd spot from the Grayster having
scored a creditable 56 points this week - *cough* this would
push 'Winners' even further down the table to 5th spot!
Tremendous Trews sit at the bottom of the table in
relegation spot "he's not really going to relegate one team
each week... is he?".

2007: Fantasy Football 2007 Game Week 2
Not going according to plan
Another draw for Manchester United.
Apparently it's 8 year's since Manchester United had such a
poor start in the Premier League, and that year they won the
treble! Which team managers had Ronaldo as their captain? Sent off for
nodding his head towards a Portsmouth player Ronaldo scored
minus points and misses the next match against Manchester
City. Meanwhile it's business as usual for Chelsea
with Lampard scoring, and Drogba finding the net and making
an assist - who had him as their team captain? After a great
start in game week 1 McShane of Sunderland was probably less
than thrilled to find net against Birmingham City, shame it
was the wrong net. Everton believe they have a team
that will emulate the team of the 80's and are filled with
confidence which was evident in their 3-1 win against Spurs
at White Hart Lane. Arteta, Osman and Stubbs the point
scoring stars. Who had Berbatov as their team captain?
With the League Forum
continuing to reverberate from the current scandal only a
few team
managers were able to give team selection their full
attention with The Grayster scoring the most points this
week climbing to second place in the table with Walkers Winners
taking top spot.

2007: Fantasy Football 2007 Game Week 1
25
teams battle it out in this year's competition
Yet again scandal rocks the Cranston Park Fantasy Football
League as the season starts in anger - literally!
Already we have our first team entering the 'sin bin' for what, some would say, is a minor crime but felt by the
league organiser to be a crime too far following a long
history of misdemeanours. When the dust has settled I
may feel safe to report the full details of this sorry
affair but for now let's concentrate on the league after
game week 1.
After what seemed like
weeks of build up we had some early surprises with last
year's winner Earl Gray not getting off to the start he
expected finding himself in the lower half of the table.
Meldrew Toon made an inspired signing to bring Sunderland's
young international defender McShane into his squad to help
secure top spot with 60 points and a 9 point lead over joint
second placed Wobs Wandewers and George's Giants.
Glory may be short lived though; game week 2 has six teams
missing due to European qualifying matches (Arsenal, Aston
Villa, Blackburn, Liverpool, Newcastle and West Ham).
If like Meldrew Toon you haven't planned ahead, you wont
have a bunch of substitute players on the bench ready to
replace your non-playing players, doh!
Let's see how long I
can keep this weekly report going.
